Default Searching for local Native American Organizations

I am a committee member to a local (Oakland County) Heritage festival, and we are discussing features/attractions/interactions we might like to have at next year's festival.

We are very interested in the possibility of bringing in a Native American influence (interactive displays, encampments, crafts, hands-on learning and activities, etc.) but we're not sure where to start, or who to start with.

Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts or connections....somewhere to start???

Thanks!

Maybe contact the Tribe in that area and they should be able to give you a hand on what they can do for you. Here is a link that lists the tribes in Michigan and a few have their web address as well as a mailing address. If one can't help, they may point you in the right direction.

I used to work next door to the S.E. Michigan Indians Association in Center Line (696 & Van Dyke area) and often planned my lunch in the summertime where they'd gather kids for storytelling . I'd just put up a chair on the other side of the fence and listen and they didn't mind . I am of native american heritage myself , but didn't have a membership here .
Maybe they can help you or point you in the right direction , they do have powwows a couple of times a year .

I worked for the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi one summer and they have an education department with many connections with Native American educators that put on programs such as language, arts, culture/traditions...I would give their education department a call and explain what you are looking for and if they could help Official Website of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi

At Swartz Creek Days here in Genesee county, there has been a booth put together by a local Anishinaabe for the last few years. I just googled, here's some contact information.
