Sorry, MI prices never seemed logical to me.

We've vacationed in Siesta Key, FL (Sarasota area) for the last 4-5 years. The Key itself (an island) is an expensive place to live (property wise), and the beach was rated among top 10 in the world by some publications (we've learned about it from People's mag while on vacation in Ft Lauderdale that really sucks by comparison). Yet we were always able to rent a place for 2-3 adults and 2 kids, in a nice condo with all amenities and often directly on or near the beach, for about $600 a week, give or take (off season, ie between college breaks). A couple of times, when we thought of staying in MI to save on plane tickets and car rental, we simply couldn't find anything comparable that wasn't way more expensive. Even when I account for the cost of 4 plane tickets and a car, it's either a wash or about $300 a week difference. Sorry, a cold'ish lake isn't a match for a beautiful white sandy beach near a warm ocean. I just don't get the rental prices here.
