Is that the old Society of Arts and Crafts? If it is (I've been away from Detroit for awhile) it's very good.

It's a great school, I wish I could have gone but I didn't know how good it was at the time. I have a friend who went and is now a head designer at ford.
Very good rep. |

Thanks for the info. Anyone else have any comments on this school? It seems like a good school..... BUT no one has heard of it that I know of? If any it is for their Auto Design program. Anyone heard about any of their other programs?

I went to CCS last year.
is it a good school? is it worth the money? all depends on what you are going for. transportation design, product design, illustration, ad design (art direction): yes. great school. graphic design (my major): no. terrible. i quit before getting my bachelors and i do not regret the decision. it is well known throughout the school that the graphic design program has gone bad over the last 10 years or so. i transferred from a community college and felt more pushed and challenged in my old school than CCS. however i do know people who graduated there and loved it. especially those who were in other departments. i dont know much about some majors: crafts, photo, animation, film. but i do know that there is no specific motion graphics major there and that really sucks. i worked as a motion graphics artist in detroit and tried to take classes tailored to those needs but couldnt. well all in all IMO i HATED the school and felt it was the biggest waste of money ever. but thats me. i also think if i would have gone into art direction i may have liked it much better, just from hearing my friends' stories who were in that dept. the area does suck though. i had a hard time with all the snooty people in my dept... lots of those at CCS... but some really cool people in the fine arts dept. sorry dont mean to sound bitter, just one of the worst experiences i ever had. i loved college before CCS... but please make your own judgements, many people did love CCS. |
