Alpha, Michigan
Hello, I am an artist in New York City doing a project on all things "alpha" and am wondering if anybody knows anyone in Alpha, Michigan. I would love to have interviews, photographs, or any information about the town. Thank you for your help!

I know many wonderful things about Alpha Michigan! I posted a very lengthy reply submitted, then it vanished...maybe I will have more time to re-type at a later date.

Alpha is in Iron County (just a little west of here) It has a very small populous and one BIG empty(mostly) school building. An interesting traffic circle......not many cars. Those who propose school consolidation downstate don't understand the long distances here in the "UP". The school district where my son teaches has a bus route covering 700 mi / day. Last time I was in Alpha the one store was closed. Is there a email for the postmaster? I'm sure he/she would be a good contact. Good Luck!

Alpha is very small (pop. 198), You can probably call the Village Clerk for information. The number is 906.875.3465

alpha MI
I bought a house in Alpha MI 2 years ago. I'm from Chicago but now living in WI. It is a really cute little town. When I got the house, the tavern was closed, there was no store, no business except the post office. When I went in Sept 08, the bar, the restaurant, a new convenience store (new construction), a sell-on-eBay store, a new pizza place and a tattoo parlor were all opened. I think it must hold some interest for people to be funnelling in new money in this economy. There's a museum that would probably have all the info you need. They have a great July 4th party.

They do have a great "Haunted House" for Halloween when they do up the old school! I love that-for someone from NYC the quiet might be deafening, except for the frogs at night. I would also suggest contacting Forest Park High School in Crystal Falls (they bus the kids there from Alpha) and you might become a project for them too! Good Luck
They might even find some of the kids or teachers that can do an interview.
