I think people just have these high expectations of Arizona and our "sunny, year-round weather". I love Arizona (been here my entire life), but I would never just up and move somewhere without ever visiting it!
Even with the miserable heat and absolutely no jobs here, there are STILL posts (in the Arizona board) of people wanting to relocate here. Crazy people if you ask me!

If you have ever been to Michigan you will understand why people would move out of state.

The mountains here are pretty...from a distance. Up close, they look like big piles of dirt. The car insurance and license and registration here will bankrupt you. I LOVE being punished because there are so many slimeballs here who think it's a good idea to steal cars and run them to Mexico. We live in a very nice subdivision...where no one will look at us, much less speak to us. Well, except for one nice lady across the street. Someone here told me that people in AZ don't bother with their neighbors or invest in relationships with them because the population here is so transient. I can see why. We are going home ASAP, as in, within the next two weeks, before our kids get locked into schools here.
Okay, I know that there are many people who love AZ. Please don't take offense at my post. It's just not for us. There is one very, very wonderful thing about AZ though...it made us appreciate Michigan like we never have before.

Your post is absolutely hilarious. I read it to my wife and we were both laughing. She was curious about where in Michigan you moved from and where in Az you moved too? Great post. Love the last line.

Lived here my whole life and have no idea why so many people want to move. So what's your point?

We lived in SE Michigan, about 45 min. outside of Detroit in Monroe Co. We live in the Arrowhead Ranch section of Glendale, AZ FOR NOW, will be back in MI, God willing, before the snow (the beautiful, fresh, cool, snow) flies!!!!

I'd live in Detroit metro vs. Phoenix metro
It is interesting for me reading some of these posts here. AZ is no paradise even though so many people move there. I never thought the AZ economy was so bad.
If it came down to choosing where to live between the Detroit metro area versus the Phoenix metro area, I'd pick Detroit because I'm not the biggest fan of 110+ degree heat day after day. And also, Detroit has 4 seasons which means there are changes in the weather and not the same old constant thing. Property prices in Detroit are cheaper too which means your hard earned dollars go farther.
And the Red Wings OWN the Coyotes

I've been a lurker for quite some time, and wanted to post on this one.
I moved out to AZ back in April, and man do I miss Michigan! Thankfully, since we work out of the house, my wife and I are headed back in a few months. We wanted to try a new culture since we were young just to try, but I'm glad we did.
I completely agree with canudigit, while I love the scenery, it just doesn't feel like a home. None of my neighbors talk to me, except one once, and I haven't seen them since. Yes, we do get out of the house, and try to walk, but the heat doesn't let up. While I love the heat, I just want a rain shower, or slight breeze some time.
I can definitely see why some can live out here, but for me, MI is my home, and when I go back, I will appreciate MI SO much more.

Not that I feel Arizona needs to be defended. But I can't help but wonder if you guy's really gave it a fair shake. I don't think anywhere is going to feel like home after 4 months. I have been told to visit during the summer before I think to commit to a move there. I think I would have to give it at least a year before moving back. We were out there in April of last year and even though it was high 90's I thought it was nice. Not sure how much worse it is 10-15 degree's higher. I wonder if it's kind of like here where when it hit's upper 80's to mid 90's it feels the same to me. Hot and humid.
I've always thought Michigan was a friendly state but I think it all comes down to area. Since our neighbor lost their house we only know one neighbor. There is an Oakland County Sheriff 2 doors down who has twins the same age as my son but they keep to themselves. Odd.

I'm sure that I, for one, have not given AZ a fair shake, but honestly, I am so homesick for things like maple trees, cornfields, and lakes, and when you throw in how we don't know anyone here and spend our weekends going out to eat just for something to do, well, I. just. don't. like. it. here. Yuck!!
Actually, my hubby came home from work today in so much pain from the job that he is doing that he had a sit down with his boss who informed him that he was close to letting him go because his 50 yo body can't do the job that a 25 yo can do. Hubby told him adios, and we are headed back to Michigan in two weeks. Yay!!!! We have rental properties back home that we were unable to sell in this recession, so we do have an income, and I think that I can find something since I am an RN. We're...going...HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can relate to everything you miss. I know I don't even have to leave to know exactly what I would miss. Let me be the first to say welcome back.

Thanks! And may I just add to that list of things that I miss farm fresh sweet corn and tomatoes in August. The produce in the stores out here is...ugh...well, it all looks like it was shipped across the desert from the California coast, which it probably was. Gosh...I feel like breaking out in song and singing that Daughtry song, "Home", except I don't know the lyrics except for "I'm going home"...
