The best thing about Michigan is still the lump of illiterate UAW workers and gray, lifeless GM execs that waste and destroy shareholder investment.
Nothing else comes close.
True! My home state has Ann Arbor, lakes ... Woodward ... Jilbert's ice cream (uh, ok) ... but there's only ONE example out there of the most inept and corrupt corporate culture anywhere.

You should visit that part of the state. If I paid you $100 to visit there and you paid me $100 to revisit SVSU, I would demand reimbursement for the gas.
If I had to drive, say, 100 miles either to visit a regional public university campus or go to a classic car show in a Kmart parking lot in Indiana...

I had to stop reading this because it was bringing tears to my eyes (literally).. I pretty much miss Michigan for every reason mentioned here and wish so bad that I could go back. I left in 86 when I joined the Navy and obviously never had a chance to be stationed anywhere on the Great Lakes.. Now I'm retired and still in San Antonio, even though I really don't like the city. Affordable housing is good and it's a good city for a retired vet, but it's definitely no Michigan.. Maybe when I finish my degree I can go back home. The other problem is home is Ann Arbor and that place isn't getting any cheaper. I love it a lot though and it will always be home to me..
thanks
a couple things people left out were it's the easiest place in the world to make a map of (hold up your hand) and people actually know how to drive, unless that has changed in the last 20 years.. I remember everyone driving fast and that's how I like it.

No sir, the good stuff is all the same - Michigan is still Michigan. Sure, some coney places have gone outta bizness, but some have remodeled ... and the roads are getting better with reconstruction (M-14).
**** San Antonio (life is too short for that kind of crap) and make it home safely!

Although I am in the process of researching other areas to live as part of my quest to find career employment, there are still positive things to be said about Michigan:
Swimming in Big Bay DeNoc, especially when there's waves.
Canoeing on the Manistee, and Jordan Rivers.
Crossing the Mackinaw Bridge is always thrilling, but it's really beautiful when the sailboat races are in process.
Northern lights
U.P. pasties
The fruit stands on US 31
Lighthouses...we have many.
Taquamonon Falls
Picking wild blueberrys
Small town festivals
Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Manitou Island
All the lilacs and apple trees blooming at the same time
Holland tulips
MSU...Go Spartans!

Good call on the lighthouses. I believe Michigan has more than any other state.
