I just visited Old Mission Lighthouse a few weeks ago but was disappointed to find that it's being lived in and you can't tour it.

The lakes (especially Superior)
My hometown (White Pigeon -- I grew up on the crossroads of US 12 and US 131. I even miss them!)
The rich automotive history
The U.P. and all its natural beauty, small towns, mining history, and funny accents
My FAVORITE part of the U.P., the Keweenaw Peninsula, especially the Copper Harbor area ... Brockway Mountain Drive is breathtaking in the fall
The fall colors, esp. up north
The Porcupine Mountains (yeah, I really love the U.P.)
I-94
Red Wings hockey
Vernor's! Can't get it out here in VA
Olga's Kitchen ... nothing beats Olga bread
Kalamazoo and my alma mater, WMU
Big Mac (I walked across it on Labor Day a few years back ... incredible views! Got to watch the sun rise over the Straits)
Mackinac Island
The Holland tulip festival
The fact that there's a town named Hell. How cool is that?
The Grand Rapids Rampage!

Oh, and how could I forget ... MEIJER! A true Michigan institution. I really, really miss Meijer out here in VA. Wal-Mart Supercenters just aren't the same thing.

And ... speaking of Yoopers, "Rusty Chevrolet" by Da Yoopers! Christmas isn't complete without hearing that classic.

And ... the old camelback bridge in Mottville.
MDOT - US-12 / St. Joseph River (Ped. Bridge)
US-12 used to cross there, but they built a new bridge right next to it many years ago and kept this one as a foot bridge. That's a little slice of SW Michigan history ...

KKRA is on a distinguished road
Autumns are my favorite time here. Spring would be second because I know the warmer weather and bluer skies are coming, along with all the beautiful flowers and leaves on the trees.
Some of my favorite places in SE MI:
The Swan Creek Outlet Store in Dundee
Dixboro General Store
The Cider Mill in Dexter (open mid Aug thru mid Nov)
Downtown Dexter, which has unique shopping and some new restaurants now
Hudson Mills county park (Dexter)
Jenny's Farm Market (Dexter)
Downtown Ann Arbor (around Main Street & its side streets)
A day on the chain of lakes in Dexter/Pinckney

Amazing Post - wish the world would recognize the value of Michigan and help our little economy!

Personally, I love wine country, Lake Michigan, our Hospitable and Friendly Culture. Great Real Estate bargains... Did I mention Lake Michigan?!

Thumbs up Great memories of Detroit:

Boy, are all of you making me homesick. I wasn't born and raised in MI, but spent 16 yrs. there raising my own children and loved everything about MI. We had to leave 11 yrs. ago because of a job transfer, but I would come "home" in a Detroit minute if I could.

I miss the fall, Greenfield Village, DETROIT AUTO SHOW, Woodward cruisin, vibes of Motown, living on the lake, UP, Mackinaw Island, Holland tulips, U-M home football and basketball games (remember Fab 5?), Fox Theater, all of the beautiful people of Michigan that despite its problems still remain loyal to all the good it has to offer. Hey, how about those cherries!

Can't wait to get back this fall to visit friends and family left behind.

Hang in there, all of you. We're pulling for you.
