Thats way too long of a commute, in winter it would be hell.

I did Kalamazoo to Marshall for acouple of years, but worked three times a week, and it was still too much.

Parchment? Seemed peaceful and quiet to me, I didnt know how the schools were though.

katandmike is on a distinguished road
portage is a great place, galesburg is in between kalamazoo and battle creek, its a nice very small town... lots of decent areas in kalamazoo... steer away from the north side though

I am not that familiar with Kalamazoo but used to live in CA and my hometown is MI. I am not sure where you live in CA but when you come to MI you will be surpised at how much less the housing is in even the good areas and how much more you get for that money.Have you looked on craigslist or realtor.com at all? I would just to get a feel. I know you are used to traffic but winter traffic to me is a whole different thing.You have to worry about the other drivers hitting you and areas not being plowed etc. It can take a toll after 6 months of it too so I would factor that in when choosing a place.Good luck in what you decide.
