Default New Harbor in Leland

Leland (on the West coast of Leelanau Peninsula) is getting a cool renovated Township harbor. I've been watching it since May, and it's almost done.
A few pics of the progress:
First is in May when the old steel docks had been removed, the last is in July when the docks opened at full (70 boats) capacity

Please note that Historic Fishtown has not changed at all. It's now owned by a historic preservation group (www.preservingfishtown.org ) and, hopefully, will never change except to be preserved, restored and enhanced. The pics are Leland Township Harbor, a neighbor just north of Fishtown, and the harbor (built in the mid-60s) was obsolete and decrepit. It's going to be a first class, up-to-date recreational boating facility.

a couple very recent pics. The boater services building is about done. It's designed to blend in nicely with Historic Fishtown, the next door neighbor to the South.

They did a very nice job with the new harbor and buildings. I'll miss the old one though as I sailed out of the harbor many times. It can be a challenge without an outboard eninge though..

Aaahh, nothing better than leaving Leland harbor in a small sailboat heading for the Manitou Islands. And returning back to the safe harbor when the wind is blowing 30 mph.

I need to get myself another sailboat soon.

The stone wall and steel cells that make an unpowered entrance to the harbor so "exciting" are still in place as before. The floating docks, services building, parking lots, fuel/electric/water systems are all new.
I sold my boat last year ( 1956 Chris-Craft 27' Sedan Cruiser) and am feeling seriously "boat-lonely" these days. When I whine about it my wife says "fill that lonely spot with all the money you're NOT spending on that tub". She's right, just this once, but I still miss being out on the water whenever the mood strikes.
So I spent my launch-and-soak-up money on a Salmon charter!
