Interest in the Wixom plant
Has anyone else seen the story that there a companies looking to purchase the old Ford Wixom plant? I had not seen or heard anything about this until I signed on to the Traverse City Record Eagle web site. Here is another link I found about it.
Two alternative energy companies want to buy Ford Wixom plant for major renewable energy park - MLive.com
If you read the entire thing there is talk about building an amusement park on the site but they feel the energy plant would be better because it would not have to be torn down and the average pay rate is $40k a year......but where are those people going to work in 10 years when they ship the work to Mexico like every other good paying job in the area? Sumthin tuh tink about.

Either a new factory or an amusement park would be great for the area. Preferably both!
Remember, only 11% of American jobs have been lost to outsourcing. The rest have been lost to red, white and blue American robots.

They need to hurry up and do something. I drive by the damned place every day and it's just getting uglier and uglier.

They do need to do something, the windows have not been washed in at least 3-4 years and there are already high growing visible weeds growing through the cracks in the large parking lots.
A renewable energy plant would be good because they would not have to tear the whole thing down. But an amusement park would be a huge money maker for the area. Bringing in many people from different areas, of course it would be hard to compete with Ceder Point though. With the amusement park it would probably make local businesses flourish from the outside money coming in.

Yeah I think the Renewable Energy thing is almost a done deal. Everyone complains about the Governor, but it seems she is making some positive things happen...and quickly considering. The reason they are coming is because they get all kinds of tax breaks etc for a great many years...that more than makes up for the wage differential with Mexico...so hopefully good jobs and lasting ones.

I did read about this and it would be pretty good if they can make it happen (and if it grows like they anticipate).

A power plant would seem like a better idea, do you guys really think an amusement park would draw that many people?? I mean, i guess if its done right, but why would people drive past Cedar Point just to come up here?? I dunno, doesn't seem like that great of a business model.
As far as in ten years, you just hope the workers will be smart enough and learn from what JUST HAPPENED and save most of the money they get from the place instead of spending like crazy, considering its a plant job. Ultimately this is really good, people in MI are stretched so thin its not even funny, bringing some kind of money into MI will be great. I do wonder what kind of longevity this industry will have.

Unless there's a drastic change in the way we do business as a country, nothing will have any kind of longevity - neither the jobs nor the dollar (which seems to be our last remaining exported product).
