I've heard both Michiganians (ian, not ion) and Michiganders. I asked on another forum years ago before moving here and was told Michiganders was the "preferred" term, whatever that means.

Both are nerdy-sounding and should be avoided if possible. Wish we had something that rolled off the tongue, like "Texan."
If I had to pick one....
Nope. Not gonna pick one.

Michan? Michian?
I agree, there isn't a really nice-sounding term for....um....uh....Michigan people.
I like the sound of Yooper though. Troll, not so much. LOL.

I call myself "Lucky" for being able to live herem and raise my kids here. Call me what you want, doesn't matter, I get to watch the sunset over Lake Michigan and the kids being educated in great schools; They could refer to me as "Michiiturd" and I would just smile and nod.

True, we are not ganders...but we're not "anians" either. I've always used Michigander but am happy with either, as long as I can still be one.
What are Wisconsin people called, other than cheeseheads? I think they've got it worse than we do.

I prefer Michigander, it is much better and makes more sense. It is also standard.

I prefer Michiganian but I think most people prefer Michigander. Although no one outside Michigan seems to know that one.
Plus it doesn't even make sense. There is no "d" at the end of Michigan so how can it be Michigander? Michiganer maybe.
I know it stems from an insult said by Lincoln. Still like Michiganian better.
