Question Unemployment Extensions

I have a question i hope somebody can help me with.Today i certified with MARVIN as usual with no problems, after doing that i checked my history and seen i only have 1 week remaining out of the 26 on my unemployment.I've heard about extensions but im not sure how to file for them.I've heard you can do it online at the same place you certify with MARVIN.

I've also heard you have to wait until your unemployment is completely gone before applying, do i have to call anyone or can i just apply for the extension online even though i have 1 week remaining? I also heard you have to wait for something to come in the mail first...is this true?

I'd like to apply for it now if possible so my next unemployment payment isn't short nor do i want to have to wait again to get my benefits (it was a pain originally to apply when they were back logged) took several weeks to get my first payment.

So can anyone who's been through this or knows what to do fill me in please, I don't want to be sitting here again broke with bills piling up if i don't have to.I'm hoping to have this all resolved when i call MARVIN again in 2 weeks if that's possible.

Call them now so your benefits don't get interrupted....they do it right over the phone. When you have one week left they will tell you to call MARV on your scheduled day and then the following week you will call Marvin again to claim the odd week.

Do it now, call them, don't wait for them to send you extension papers in the mail and don't bother extending online.....the rep can update your info right then and there.

Thanks, i just figured it would be easier and less hassle then waiting on the phone for hours on end.

Here's what I do because MARVIN takes 3-4 minutes to explain all the rules . I call 3-4 minutes before my scheduled call in time ( I almost always get through 1st try) by the time MARVIN gets around to asking me my s.s.# and password , it's my normal call in time .

May i suggest using MARVIN online instead of calling in.I use to call in but found doing it online literally takes 30 seconds at the most.Very quick and easy, better then listening to that automated voice ramble on and on..lol.

As for my questions i just applied for EUC? online today seeing as i only have a week left on my original 26 weeks, hopefully everything works out.I tried the posters suggestion of calling in and talking to somebody but after an hour of being on hold i just went online and did it on their site, im hopin its just as fast to receive an answer or extended benefits.

The Michigan unemployment Agency website has a few factsheets that will answer all your questions: UIA - Unemployment Insurance Agency scroll down near the bottom and open the PDF files entitled Extended Benefits in Michigan, Fact Sheet 122 and Emergency Unemployment Compensation, Fact Sheet 120

Regarding Extended Benefits after your original 26 weeks has ended, specifically refer to page 4 of the first PDF ( Extended Benefits in Michigan, Fact Sheet 122 ). This first extension is for 20 weeks (total now up to 46 weeks)

The second PDF explains Emergency Unemployment Compensation details. Note there are some stipulations. The document claims they will send you documentation regarding this EUC, but don't count on it. If, ater a week or two of your extension being exhausted then apply online -it's quick and easy. The number of weeks for this EUC is 33 weeks and is in two tiers.

The total number of weeks possible as of now is 79, but each case is looked at independently. I plan on reading the links provided in an earlier post to see if there are more extensions coming (I heard a quick blurb on the news a few weeks ago that the Governor want's more unemployment benefit extensions).
