Rent an apartment first, do not buy a house there yet. Real estate prices are bad all over MI, but worst in Flint.

I live in Grand Blanc and I have lived in Fenton. Both nice and family oriented. I really do hate that WalMart though!!

There are several communities close to Flint that have good schools (if you have kids) that you might be interested in looking into. They are: Flint Township, Swartz Creek, Flushing, Grand Blanc and Burton. Or, a little further south is Fenton. I lived in Flint Township for 10 years and the city of Flint did nothing but go down hill. It has a lot of problems, but also good people who are trying to do something about it. Don't let people who don't know the area or aren't from there discourage you. If the job is of interest to you and if you think you would enjoy working there, then go for it! Living near Flint is an easy commute - 15 to 20 mins. And, you may be able to be a positive addition to the community. If you like to run in marathons, Flint has a well-know run, the Crim, that is held every year and attracts runners from all over the world! Good luck!

Missing it.
Hey there. I lived in Flint and surrounding areas (Flint itself, Davison, Grand Blanc, and Swartz Creek) from infancy until my 30s. The grass IS greener on the other side, as some have said.
After moving to New Mexico which I think now is the worst possible place you can live, I realized Flint wasn't so bad. I found myself really missing it there.
Flint DOES have many many bad qualities... but New Mexico makes it look like a cultural Mecca.
I'm now happy in Siouxland.
A note of honesty now: Would I recommend in good conscious Flint as a new home town? I guess it would depend on your priorities, but the crime rate... actually the overall crime rate doesn't scare me.. the VIOLENT crime rate is absolutely ridiculous, and I think we won "murder capital" many years in a row, actually beating out New Orleans for that distinction.

I dont think Id move to Flint. I moved from Flint to Grand Rapids area or West of Grand Rapids over 25 years ago. I go back about twice a year to visit my parents who live NE of Flint. I would not want to raise a family in that area. There is so much more over in West Michigan. It is a great place to live, work and raise families. If you do have to move to flint, move not in flint but in some of the better suburbs as mentioned. I will never go back except to visit.

I wouldnt move here if the world depended on it, this place is so ****ty, only way to make good money is to slang drugs nless ur the 1% who has a good job... government mostly... this place is so bad, I am saving up right now to get the hell outta here, you would be crazy to even consider moving here... Unless you have a death wish avoid flint. 80 percent of the people here are on food stamps and half of them sell them for cash and buy drugs ent that some bs what a shame F the government. I have been shot at twice in the past 5 months I will be lucky to get out of here. I mean even the damn jails are full and they had to shut down a prison and release inmates and transfer some becuase they couldnt afford to keep it open. *SAW that in the sunday paper* I mean WOW wtf.
