Sorry, I didnt read all of the postings....maybe someone already said this.....but I was born and raised in flint and moved out to Davison when I was a little older. If the job is a good enough one to want to move to the flint area, I would suggest looking into Davison. In davison you wont be affected by Flint's high crime.

Just one more comment.....it is true thats Flint's crime rate is among the worst. However, in all my time in Flint the worst thing that ever happened to me was having my car broken into once and stolen another time. And both of these times I was in a rougher area. Just like any city, it has parts that need to be avoided. When you live in the surrounding suburbs flint doesnt seem like such an awful place.

i didn't say that if you live in flint you'll see a corpse. i was just saying that if you are interested, youtube flint. one will see god-awful crime that will make you think twice.
what is up with u people getting all offended? want me to say that flint is a wonderful place filled with magic and rainbows? i'm trying to give an accurate account from personal experience. i don't know why people try to downplay how bad the place is. personally, if i could talk someone out of moving there, i'd feel like i helped them out in a big way. my comments are not even directed at anyone in particular and people act like i'm cussing out their grandmothers.
come on.
i'm not retracting one word from anything negative i've posted about flint. especially when i typically only post in threads that are clearly labeled as being threads about how yucky it is, or is someone asking what one's experience of the place is.
this one is titled "Flint, MI", not "Davison" or "The Area Surrounding Flint"

If you're referring to me, I am not upset about anyone trash-talking flint. It is not a great place to live and I moved to Grand Rapids a few years ago because I was tired of the area. However, I'm just telling the original poster that it isnt entirely gloom and doom in flint and that you will probably never be shot at living there. I would personally never move back to the area but who am I to tell someone else what to do? Perhaps the job is a very good career opportunity and is worth moving to a depressed area.

Flint is mostly drug down by it's horrible northern areas. Anybody who's been there lately will tell you that is the truth. There's even some very nice neighborhoods adjacent to downtown. Most of the UM-Flint/MCC professors live in that neighborhood adjacent to the colleges much to most people's surprise.

Well I currently live in Oklahoma City and my car has been broken into and it was just stolen on Valentine's Day. Needless to say the cops got my car back and three felon's went to jail (one ran, but they found him a couple days later). Crime is everywhere and that is just the way that goes. I haven't spent much time in Flint, but I am moving there in July. I will not actually live in Flint, but I am looking at Grand Blanc and Swartz Creek to live. I will be an Air Force recruiter there for 4-5 years and I am looking forward to it. I finally live around a little bit of my family who lives an hour north of Flint. I've heard there are some nice areas even in Flint, but there are bad parts I imagine like every major city has. I was born in Trenton, MI and lived in Riverview for the first seven years of my life so it is nice to go back near "home" for a few years at least. I guess I will find out soon what it is really like...

In spite of the crime and troubles that plague Flint, there is ONE thing I notice that makes it so much different from any place else. Most of the people I run into there are actually friendly! Try to strike up a conversation with a clerk in places like Youngstown, Ohio or Butler, Pennsylvania where they just don't have the time or interest. People in Flint have change in the last 30 years, and for the better among those who decided to stay and tough it out.
Also, understand that the state plans to allocate over a billion dollars towards its educational system, especially post secondary. That will give a good boost to Kettering, Mott, and the U of M branch campus. Hopefully, those 100,000 yearly college grads will have a better chance. And one must admit, housing is actually affordable, even in Ann Arbor. Our economy can't change overnight. It happens gradually, one day at a time.

To Jake - yes, I agree Flint is a dangerous place but realize that every city has crime. The "highest murder rate in the state" is based on per capita. Therefore, the lower the population, the "higher" the crime statistics are. When you look at a highly populated city (such as NYC for instance), they have a high crime rate as well but because of the dense population, the numbers appear low.
