Will Detroit ever really recover, in your honest opinion?
Absolutely! We have great bones as a city and as a state. We have more engineers in this region than in all the other states plus Canada and Mexico combined.

What a useless article really. There are a LOT more questions that could/should have been asked. My personal #1 Question I would like answered is: "You keep touting that education and re-education are our future, yet you are cutting school funding at an alarming rate. Are you talking just to be heard, or are you schizophrenic?"

Do we ask the D- ( or F) student how to achieve a 4.0 GPA?
Do we ask the coach of the Lions how to win the Super Bowl?
Do we ask GM how to make money?
Why do we ask this woman anything at all???

Yeah, but Mexico has all the cheap labor I wish the city would recover, but I guess it's also what's in your definition of "recover," too. IMO, it's not just the jobs, but the stigma left behind after the whole Kwame ordeal (which is still ongoing as he tries to live a high class lifestyle in Texas while believing he should only owe the city nothing ), the ongoing mess/corruption that is the Detroit city council, the financial disarray the school system is in, and the list goes on and on. There's many things wrong with the city that jobs alone won't fix.

"We HAD more engineers", is what should have been said. Many have left - or will soon - for obvious reasons and the rest of us will be slinging pizza's eventually to pay for food.

It was almost as if Larry King were asking all the questions. Lob a few easy fat ones over the plate so she could hit them....

Did you notice the line underneath the Gov.'s picture? "Transforming Michigan: The Rust Belt goes Green". I get SO sick of the mentality that Michigan = Detroit. Sheesh. MOST of Michigan is wide open spaces, farmland, and trees, lots and lots of trees. So because Detroit is the motor capital of the country, the entire state is "the rust belt"? Give it a rest, honey! Michigan is a very large state geographically, but you would think that it is just a little nub of land that Detroit sits on. Did the governor herself actually say that and endorse it, as in, is that her signature underneath it? Hmm...maybe her perception of our great state is part of the problem.

The business tax does not play as much of a role as what people are being led to believe. And companies are coming here.
Here's an interesting article about other states' "tax climates":
Right Place lands big business deals, thousands of West Michigan jobs despite tough competition
