Midland and Dow Corning
I live in Dallas but Dow Corning has made me an attractive offer to go to work for them and live in Midland, MI. Anything I need to be a aware of? Any opinions on Midland and Dow Corning?

I went to college in Midland for a year and lived in the area for a few more years. While Midland is a nice town, it's mostly flat farmland outside of town and there are not any interesting cities close by. There is Saginaw and Bay City but there is not a lot of culture there. It'll be a bit of a culture shock when you're used to Dallas.
However, Midland is not that far from Northern Michigan which is one of the nicest places in the US.

Nice town. Good schools but, they are facing hard times with all schools. I have noticed some good buys on repo homes in the townships.

My relative has been working for Dow for about 2 months. She loves working there! She had been in an auto industry-related job whose future was questionable. Living in the Flint area, she was not looking forward to that long commute from Flint to Midland in the winter, so she and her husband are making plans to move closer to Midland. Midland is a nicer city than Flint: better laid-out, less crime, better schools, more options for owning property at a reasonable cost. It was a no-brainer for them. In my opinion, Midland is a good place to live if you want to explore the state, since many interesting areas and cities are within a few hours' drive.

Yes, most definitely will be a culture shock, but living here will be MUCH less expensive. The people in Midland are outwardly friendly, but there are a good number who are quite snub minus the "HI, Good day"... The downtown area is fairly nice, but outside that its fairly impoverished. Yeah, not much to do around here, unless you love the outdoors and casinos.
The police... i mean, they keep the area nice, but dang.. they will pull you over for anything and profile you and all kinds of other craziness.. They are VERY strict, and their are a lot of codes that you have to adhere to. You might want to look those up in the respective area your planning to move it, those also tend to be pretty strict in the city.
