I agree with the peacefulness that follows a good snow fall!!
I also love it when you have the Christmas decorations up outside and the lights are lit up and snow on the ground.
Whenever they said a storm was coming, I would go buy some drinks and cigars, get my chair out, and sit in the garage with the door wide open sipping drinks and just watch it snow for hours. It really made me sit back with a big smile on my face and realize how great life really is.
I miss having my old Jeep and going down the back dirt roads and doing some drift busting.
Also, making snowmen, having snowball fights, and bumper skiing.

The kazillion sparkles from countless snowflakes clinging to everything on a sunny morning after a nice snow during the night.
The squeak of walking on that fresh crisp snow.
Being in New Mexico and missing those wonderful snowy things while I'm walking in the all-day-long sunshine in January....

Calling in (or being called off) work and spending the day in p.j.'s doing absolutely nothing accept watching the snow fall (shoveling once/twice) and cooking up some rib stickin food!!!

The first few lists are great lists and cover prettymuch everything. I also love that the winter drives all fo the negative nellies (complainers) inside and if you get out, you get to meet more of the hardy fun anf riendly type of people that MIchigan is known for. I also love the smell of woodsmoke. making snow angels with the kids, breaking icecicles off the house. Sliding around on ice, bundling up and being toasty warm when you are out in sub freezing temperatures.
The long cold winter also makes spring such a glorious and joyous time when it arrives. You do not get that in mild climates. There, spring just comes and no one notices.

I love all of your answers! I am actually looking forward to snow this year, for all of the above reasons and more. Our lives are so busy these days, and a good, heavy storm really just makes us chill out (no pun intended), if even for just a short while. And I love how people come together during a big storm, such as when I worked at a local hospital and people with 4WD vehicles volunteered to pick those of us up for work who couldn't get out of our driveways. There's a cohesiveness that comes with going through a storm together, KWIM?

ColdJensens mentioned one of the things I love about winter. The negative ones stay inside and complain to the walls, while everyone else gets out and enjoys the day.
There is a great feeling inside to be out in the crisp cold air and hearing your kids laughing all the way down a hill in their sleds. Laying on fresh snow making snow angels with them and having them joke that they make snow angels, while you make "snow uglies", then laughing and giggling at their own joke. Sitting on a snow covered hill or fallen tree and having a real conversation with your 10 year old son who had some questions and the time was right when the snow was falling and the rest of the world was blotted out in silence and white. The 1st snowfall of the year and the kids are jumping up and down with excitement about getting out and playing in it; as well as the 50th snowfall of the year with the same reaction.

I love coming in from shoveling snow or just being outside in the snow, taking off the wet coat, mittens, hat, and boots, and really, REALLY appreciating your warm, snug house. Then, you sit down with a hot cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, and even though you have a bunch of errands that you need to do, they are telling you on your local news station that every school in the area is closed, the roads are dangerous, and everyone should just stay home if they can. Enforced leisure. Like I mentioned in a pp, none of us seem to slow down and just rest and relax anymore, and big snow storms have a way of making us do that.

This kind of reminds me of something I did two winters back. We were getting dumped on and I was out shoveling for like the 3rd time. Nobody was out on the roads anywhere. Had my garage door open and grabbed a chair and sat and watched for awhile. I was suddenly hit with the urge to go for a walk. So I pulled my hat over my ears, yelled inside I'll be back in a bit and off I went. This was the winter following my families pleas to move to Arizona. As I walked I could not think of wanting to be or live anywhere else other than Michigan.

There is nothing better... I realize that now! I moved to St. Petersburg, FL back in 05' for 3 1/2 years. Now I have been in Atlanta, GA for 1 1/2 years... But I am moving back to MI the end of May 2010. I truly thought I would not miss the cold and the snow... but I was soooo wrong!! You truly don't know what you got till its gone!! And now I am so homesick and I cant wait to get back home to MI!!
I will have over 2 years of living expenses saved up. I am gonna try and get a job before I move, but if not, I am still coming back home without one!! I have zero bills, car's paid off, no loans, no credit cards, I pay my insurance a year in advance. The only bill I will have will be my cell phone.
Since I work in IT and have over 12 years experience doing Network Engineering/Security and will have 2 1/2 years of Telecomm experience, I should be able to find a job within 2 years!!
