Oh quit being so dramatic, and don't act like Michigan's problems haven't been worse than most other places in the nation for the past 30 to 40 years. The job climate hasn't been horrible for my entire life in all 50 states. The roads aren't constantly crumbling like they do here in all 50 states. Whites haven't completely abandoned their states largest city and sat in the suburbs to watch it rot in all 50 states. Their isn't a foriegner serving as governor or a mayor of the states largest city that wears zoot suits and earrings in all 50 states.
I love Michigan more than anyone, but its downside is indefensible, and I'm too much of a realist to deny it.

Best: The sense of humor of Michiganders! Seriously, we are some funny folks and my humor is all but lost on folks in the West. They don't pick up on the sarcasm! Michiganders are the funniest folks ever. And I also the lakes and rivers in the summer, and the great music and art in Detroit and Ann Arbor.
Worst: The economy, and the utter hopelessness lots of people feel. Also, January and February weather.

Pros: Michigan summer nights on the lake, camping up north, the lakeshore, football games in the fall and how great it smells, how down to earth the people are, bonfires, U of M football . . .
Cons: Feb and March and how muddy and cold and wet everything is. The crappy roads and the job market.

Favorites: Traverse City, Leland, Lake Michigan and all the smaller lakes, Michigan wines, summer days and nights, local strawberries, lilacs in the spring, running through the woods on a hot summer day, going to the local Amish dairy for fresh milk, looking at cows and horses in the fields.
Dislike: Winters are too long for me if we didn't have a good summer to tide me over.

My favorite part of Michigan is how close we are to woods, lakes, rivers, sand dunes, skiing, bike trails, etc. We have a lot of outdoor activities.
My least favorite part are the negative perceptions that some outsides have of our beautiful state.
