My this is an interesting thread... I wish you luck moving to MI from Texas. I have lived here most of my life, the rest of it in the Midwest. It is a different state, I have always felt it is because it is a peninsula and for that reason you only have borders on one side. Makes you a little isolationist. Makes a lot of things different, electric power has only a few avenues to enter the state, trucking comes from one direction. Weather is benign, lakes tend to remove the violent weather. Snow only piles up in the UP and along Lake MI, so living on the east side you have to drive to the big snow. I would recommend doing that on some big snow time as there is nothing so beautiful as all the fir trees covered in snow like snowmen all over the fields. We have beautiful lakes and rivers. Canoeing is wonderful, few rapids, but lovely lands and eagles to watch overhead. Take time to enjoy our wonderful state, even if we lifetime inhabitants are a bit reserved. Just remember, it is a peninsula!

It's called being "bi-coastal." If it doesn't happen between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, it's probably not really very important.

"Bi-coastal" Now that is a new one on me. I like it though, quite descriptive.
