Anyone that says Flint is not that bad or just as bad as anywhere else is not being honest. This little bitty city has one of the highest crime rates in the country. Some of the crime here may be drug related but definately not all. the young people are now killing for sport. They shoot into moving cars, pull up next to cars and shoot in them. Flint is out of control and lots of people are committing crimes because they know they wont be caught and the jail is to capacity. Not trying to scare you i'm telling you the truth!
You make it sound like if you went to Flint you would be sure to see a murder or get shot at. I live 10 min. from Flint and have been going there all my life and worked there. I have never seen a shooting or a crime. Its mostly in the bad parts of town....not everywhere.
Is really funny I keep telling people every winter who are bitching about the cold and snow to pack up their chit and go to a warmer climate. The all has some reason for not leaving. I got my job, all my family lives here, ON and ON.
I say the same thing about Flint. If you feel it is so bad MOVE pack up your chit and go where you feel safe probably under a rock some place.
Flint is as safe as any town it's size as long as you do the right stuff. Stay away from drugs and the drug trade. Do not hang out in shady looking bars. Walk with your head held high be polite and friendly to persons you meet on side walks.
Fellow was killed just down the road from me in his hay barn. He was alway flashing huge rolls of money every where he went to impress people and it came back to bite him in the butt. This is out in the country well away from Flint. Young guy a couple of miles over got killed too out here in the country. He was fooling around with another mans wife, she died also.

And another thing...you would think as bad as people make Flint out to be, people would be walking around mad as hell...always in a bad mood. Even when I worked in the northern parts of Flint collecting money for a rental place, 99% of the people I met were nice as could be. We go to Flint a lot, and where ever we go...people are always nice no matter what color. Just like you said...as long as you mind your own business, and be polite, people will be just as polite back to you. Let the idiot drug dealers and gangs kill each other, just stay out of the bad parts and youll be perfectly fine.
No the campus is not as safe as any other college campus, albeit it is fairly safe, but it does have its fair share of incidences. I have heard and even read an article not long ago about the fear that the students there have of walking to their cars even in bro?ad daylight. Students do get robbed and there may not be shootings on campus, but there are shootings close enough by.
Link please...? Campus security sends notices out whenever there are incidences on campus, and I haven't gotten any in quite awhile.
Flint is not safe, one reason why it's known as one of the most dangerous cities in the country. Do you think one of the most dangerous cities in the country will have safe spots as if your in Hollywood or Manhattan? Not at all. Flint crime as cited above have even been escalating to it's suburbs. What a tragedy.

In the area your speaking of I have a friend and their friend have had a fair amount of relatives live in that area within 10 years. A handful now live in Flushings, Grand Blanc and Owosso. Though majority have migrated around St. Johns, Howell and Lapeer.
Had to go down town yesterday with bussness on North Saginaw street.
Worst problem with the area is parking. You can spent $2.00 to use the gragage for about 20 miniutes I was there. Get a permit from the U of M To use their 40 acre of mostly empty lot. Or just take a chance of getting a ticket like I did for about 20 minutes. When I left I took Robert T. Longway to Dort to Court and went to Courtland mall. didn't see one dead person, drug dealer, mugging or robbery.

Well this would give me the ideal that you were wearing shades. Ofcourse there are not drug deals at every corner in Flint, nor are there guns being fired at every liquor/ party store but being Flint the city could easily become such. To live in Flint ( told by once residents) you feel as if your walking on egg shells, and every blink is at your own risk. Simply many do not desire to have such a life style, Flint has a crime problem and any resident can tell you that.
I live about 25 miles northwest of Flint, and I can say I dont go there. It is very rare that I venture in to Genesse county at all. There is alot of crime, and the town is just plain depressing to look at. I know im going to look negative here, but I cant imagine anyone wanting thier kids to go to school there, or feel thier home was safe if they left it for a week. It is a shame what happened to that town, and I feel sorry for the people who feel stuck there. Not everyone who lives there is a criminal, drug addict, and alot of them are nice people who are not at fault for what happened to thier town. It is a fact though that the bad people do seem to have taken the city over, and now those people have created a reputation for Flint that probably will never change. The only good thing I can think to say about Flint is that it is not as bad as Detroit and that is not saying much. Even Saginaw, (which I still occasonally visit) is a better town than Flint. There are more parts of Saginaw that are still livable than there are in Flint. Also the Bay/Tib shopping and restaurant area is much nicer than Flints Miller/linden shopping area. Since they are both about the same distance, I always choose Saginaw. Sorry to say, but if Flint dissapeared tommorrow Michigan would be a better place for it.
I was at the Flint Public Library on Kearsley and Crapo last Thursday at approximately 3:00 in the afternoon. A elderly woman stumbled in crying and out of breath she said that as she crossed the library parking lot 2 guys ran up to her and demanded her purse and when she refused one punched her in the jaw the other threw her to the ground and kicked her until she let go of the purse. This elderly woman didn't appear to be a drug dealer or a gang member she was a innocent old lady who more than likely lives on a fixed income. May I also add that this happen in the college/cultural area where most are proclaiming is the safest part of the city. This elderly woman was not bothering or hurting anyone she was simply going to the library and was attacted and robbed by thugs. On top of hurting her they could have given her a heartattack or worst killed her. Flint is safe my ass to all that try to say it is. Flint is a city out of control full of citizens in denial
Did it ever occur to you people that we don't think it's that bad because we've seen worse? We are not delusional we know Flint isn't for the feint of heart.
If you're the type who is afraid of your own shadow, or refuse to leave the house after dark, by all means don't come here.
FYI muggings happen in ALL cities they are not exclusive to Flint. It takes really SCARY guys to mug an old lady.
You say Flint is not that bad or you've seen worst until the day someone robs, rapes, or kills you or someone close to you. Then it will be the worst city in the country. And I'm aware muggings happen everywhere my point was that people proclaim the college/cultural area is the safest part of the city and this is where the mugging of the elderly woman took place. People say steer clear of the north end or over by hurley hospital and you'll be fine BS no part of this little city is safe.
