What is Marshall MI like now?

I found the people very friendly when I worked there circa 1990-1993.
and enjoyed the little shops, library--glad they rebuilt it and its handicapped accessible now. is the hospital still there?

{I am disabled woman looking for new place to live, taking time to decide : I DO want a small town atmsophere, very relaxed, I am housebound a lot but want things as peaceful for when I do go out. I am a quiet born again Christian}]

How would it compare to HIllsdale? [I think the economy is doing somewhat better, yeah I know MI is bad in general}

Marshall is a very nice little town, I think nicer than Hillsdale. The area is very nice, other than jobs, but since you seem to be aware of that problem...As far as economy, it won't really matter, they're all pretty much bad. But between the two, Marshall you are within reasonable commute to many more cities than Hillsdale. Marshall you can commute to Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Jackson. Marshall is also really nice at Christmas time, they really do it up, or at least they used to anyway.

Battle Creek is/was a nice little town. Has gotten pretty rundown and crime is really bad in some areas. Also, Hastings, Vermontville, and Olivet are some other small towns in the area that are really nice.

Glad to hear it. I want a quiet place to live and don't need a job, [am disabled] I think Marshall is doing better economically [well they are all bad] but there is some difference. I need a visiting home doctor and can get that there.

Thanks

What’s living in Marshall really like? We are very seriously considering a move there, as my husband may accept a job offer in Battle Creek. We were born and raised in Michigan, but have lived in Tucson AZ for the past 10 years. I love visiting Marshall and strangely feel so at home there. I found the people there wonderful. My concern is that I have a very hip teenage son and I worry that Marshall may be too “old-fashioned” for him. What’s the teen scene like? My kid is a good student and loves skateboarding, mountain biking, and snowboarding (yes we actually have snow up in the mountains). Please, keep it real – wanting the good, the bad, etc. Thanks for any help!
