Moving from Dearborn Heights: Looking for more space
Hello,
We are thinking about moving from Dearborn Heights soon. We like the city, but looking for a place that has a bit more space between houses. Somewhat country perhaps.
We would like to stay in southern Michigan in either the east or middle southern parts. We don't want to go all the way accross to the west coast or nothern MI.
Some things we are interested in are quiet , nature, parks and maybe trails. We would like some distance from our neighbors but not isolated. A small town would be nice.
We have a home based business so commuting to work is no problem.
Would like to be somewhat close to a hospital ( in case of emergency) and a church..
Stores within reach. A health store would be great.
We are in our mid fifties and would like to get out in nature some.
Any ideas on which cities we may like? I'm not having much luck searching online.
Thanks!
Lambert

I might be able to answer your question, but you'll have to answer a few questions.
1. Do you want to stay in Metro Detroit?
2. When you say "country", does this rule out suburbs?

We don't need to stay in metro Detroit.
Suburbs could be okay if not too congested.
I actually wanted to move out of state to a warmer climate, but my wife doesn't want to leave Michigan.

Hello,
I used to live in Dearborn Heights as well. We moved out of state last year in August. Which part of Dearborn Heights do you live in ? I lived in the Golfview Manor subdivision.

Hi,
We live close to telegraph, between Ford & Warren Ave. Actually it's the same street that Mexican Fiesta is on, if you ever been there.

Some great areas of mid-state
If you can move as far as Lansing area, you should definitely check out Grand Ledge and Meridian Township (Okemos area). Grand Ledge is beautiful with character, and finding a more rural home location within a reasonable distance to amenities is very feasible.
More decent small towns are: Eaton Rapids, Mason, DeWitt, St Johns. What would work for you depends on what you like in landscape. Grand Ledge has some fantastic parks (with climbing ledges), is along the Grand River, very scenic, but still considered "civilized."

Those houses you mention look out of place and really cramp, don't they... We live half way between Ford and Warren, a few blocks from those houses. There is another big house on a corner about 4 houses from us though.
Funny how they are still building new houses and they are huge compared to the original ones.

Thanks for those ideas! I will do some research on them. They sound like they are within the regions we're looking for. Don't think I want to be too close to Lansing though.

Ok, how about Oakland Township, Oxford, or Brandon Township if you want to stay in Metro Detroit. These are all newer, affluent suburbs in North Oakland county that still have a bit of a small town feel. Otherwise, try Midland, Monroe, Lakeview, Edmore, etc.

Dmetro
I will check into those areas.
BTW I forgot to mention we do need high speed internet such as Dsl or Cable.
Thanks
