Default the best plcace to live near WSU

hey

I am planing to study at wayne state university and I want to live in a place not too far from the campus ( 25 minutes is fine) . I have a wife and a 2-year-old chiled.

I will stay for two years. I want a place that is calm and safe and I want the rent average to be not more than $800.

Thank you.

I live in St Clair Shores and can make it to WSU in about 15-20 minutes, no problem. I'd look to the suburbs however there are a TON of apartments right around campus that a number of students live in.

If you value convenience or you have to spend loads of time on campus, there are relatively safe, inexpensive apartments nearby. Our grad students seem to favor the area straddling Woodward Ave. between I-94 and Warren Ave. That's a pretty nice area adjacent to the DIA and library. If you want a guaranteed short commute in the 'burbs, Grosse Pointe is what you want, but it has a gated-community feel to it. Otherwise, a place like Ferndale might also be a good option. You start pushing 25 minutes for a commute once you get past Birmingham, but there are loads of good towns in between Ferndale and Birmingham (Berkley, Royal Oak, Beverly Hills, etc.). Good luck!

I wouldn't live anywhere in the city of Detroit with a wife and 2 year-old. Try Dearborn or Dearborn Heights. When I-94 is messed up, you can take Warren Avenue all the way to Wayne, although parts of Warren will be under construction starting soon.
