I went to college at NMU in Marquette, and the view out the library window was just beautiful. I lived about 14 miles from Manistique, which is rather ugly. It's also known as "Mans Mistake". Traverse used to be nice but it's getting over developed. I grew up in Lansing.....yuck!

Marquette is beautiful, more than you can say in either the positive or negative column for Escanaba or the Soo.

Not true. Escanaba presents itself nicely to the person travelling by car. You can take the scenic route which goes through the park and down by the mansions on LSD coming out on the old main street where alot of upgrades have downtown looking traditional and nostalgic. If you stay on US 2+41+M-35 all of the development is newer, clean, well organized with businesses evenly spaced, modern curbing, street lights and signage. Aside from that Escanaba is pretty boing looking but not ugly.
The soo compares closer to Marquette than Escanaba

The area of East Lansing west of Harrison Rd. has some of the prettiest modest streets I have seen anywhere, Trippingly gorgeous on a foggy night, with the old globe style street lamps ...

what is the point of focusing on how bad everything is? how does that help anything?

Very good point. Many would do well to contemplate this.

Michigan's ugliest city: Flint
America's ugliest city: Flint
Planet Earth's ugliest city: Flint
Finally something Flint can lead the nation in. It only came in 3rd in 2006's Most Dangerous Cities list, but I'm sure it's striving to reach the top of that list too.

Ha Ha Ha! Flint is ugly. I think another very ugly/dangerous US city is Jersey City, NJ. On the other hand Princeton, NJ is very nice; but we are talking about Michigan cities right?
