Well a big THANK YOU to all the postings about the splendid Universal Gas Co.
My Sister and I were both fortunate enough to score that "initial interview" with all the other unsuspecting people there in the Southfield office. Boy that Garret sure could tell a story couldn't he? And what about the "ONE" question you were asked in the interview.."How positive are you?" Well let me tell you how positive I am. I am 100% positive that I wasted 2 hours of my time. I am 100% positive that i wasted at least $8.00 worth of gas. And I am 100% thankful that i didnt fall for Garrets line of crap.
I would love to see the local news all over this. And as for finding a job in Michigan...Good Luck. I have quite an impressive resume, and have been searching every since August for a job. But don't they have all the stores deckedout for a splendid holiday

I applied for Univ. Gas and Electric through CareerBuilder and about an hour later was called in for an interview. I was told to come to Lansing for only the interview, which is about a 2hr drive from where I live. I looked the company up online, and all I could find where posts from ppl that have been scammed. I am very skeptical about this job now and am not sure if I should even go to the interview???!!

Michigan Talent Bank
I have been a college student and very active in building a resume in those 12 years until the last couple where I have been raising babies and waiting. In those 12 years my resume has been sitting on Michigan Talent Bank. I have applied applied applied to jobs from the talent bank. I have three degrees and working on the forth to date. I have only recieved 1 phone call from the Michigan Talent Bank in 12 years from AFLAC. I thought it must be a honest company as it found me on the talent bank. I had to use my credit cards, it took almost six months to get started as I used all of my personal resources to drive around and make money for the supervisor, as he has knocked on the door years before there fore no matter what they were his leads. Other than that I have never ever been contacted by any of Michigan's Talent Bank seekers. I think the program is a joke which keeps a pretty little group of people paid here in Michigan, atleast in the North. Get out and vote, vote to not waste the money.

Kris,
I have yet to find a position through the electronic system. The best thing I can suggest is to not trust this agency, find an area you want to live in and call the Chamber of Commerce in the area for all of the names of newspapers that have job listings. The economy is a joke here in northern Michigan as the Governor has forgotten that the U.P. is part of Michigan, unless you are on welfare in the Upper Peninsula or retired you are going to starve and die here.

One more thing I would like to say about local employment in the Eastern Upper Peninsula, employers are now asking for experience in place of education. They want people to remain stupid, break their back, and take the under minimum wage hourly pays....Someone should push Governor Granholm off the bridge during that walk

My husband used the Talent Bank for months and nothing. I think so many people in MIchigan are out of work that even when you apply about 40 other people are as well. He did get a job out of state and we move next week. I'm sad about it will miss this state but I rather not live in a box. My husband recieced a letter today saying that the state is starting Emergency Unemployment . To late it like all this stuff the Governor says will happen in this state saw her on Tv today. That is great but it doesn't help anyone now.

How can anyone with a house and a car and a child pay their bills off of that kind of money? Any advice!?

Have him call unemployment and report it. One of the questions I asked when I went on unemployment was did I have to accept rediculously low offers and they told me no.

Not only is this problem occurring on MTB, (which by far is the worst bureaucratically designed racket I've seen), but all of the major job search sites are becoming the same. My resume has been sitting on MTB for years, such as other people have said, but when you look at the 500,000 resumes compared to the number of open positions, you get the joke. The only person that can tell you your benefits have been suspended is someone who represents a unemployment office, really you should be reporting the person that interviewed your husband.
