Let me start off by saying, I'm 20 and a working college student. I live alone and do not have much money to invest in air filters etc. I recently moved into an apartment for the first couple months it was fine. Then the new tenant above me moved in and they chain-smoke like crazy. I don't know how the smell is getting into my apartment I've called and complained but the landlord said the vents aren't connected in anyway. I have astmah and the smoking affects my lungs, and makes my clothes smell like im the smoker. I've tried looking into tenant's rights for MI, but couldn't find much. I'm wondering how to go about the situation.

Other Information:
- I've asked the new tenant if they could please smoke on their balcony... they don't care.
- Leasing Office said they'd send maintanence out to try and remedy it if they could - no one ever came.

I had a similar problem a few years ago- it didn't go away until the neighbor moved out.

I lived above the smoker and it was actually WAAAAYYYYY worse when they smoked outside on the balcony than when they smoked in the apartment. Because you are below them, it may not be the case, but I just wanted to let you know coercing them to smoke outside may not be a good thing.
