every one is starting to have a bad feeling about michigan.

I don't know about getting your home on the market now. Just drive around and see how many homes have been sitting for sale for over 6 months as it is. I'm in the mortgage business and obviously the market conditions have been (for a lack of better words) horrible, but we have noticed a small upswing. The key word in that sentence is small, but non-the-less there still seems to be one. I believe that us here in Michigan took the market correction well before the rest of the country and now everyone else seems to be on the down slide while we are starting to make some small strides on the upswing. Could just be me hoping but that's my 2 cents.

If I was looking to buy a home, at least in the Downriver area, I would buy now. Most sellers are paying closing cost and people want out so bad from underneath their mortgages that you can get a good deal. Unfortunately, we are moving out of state. We got more for our money and taxes are way lower. We hope it looks up for everyone. We know that the houses on our street have been on the market for over a year. What comes down should go up. We hope.
God Bless,

Kim

Haha! A "Bash Michigan" thread cleverly disguised as a Whirlpool job loss topic. Everything I've read about the recently announced Whirlpool job cuts states they are eliminating jobs outside of Michigan at their Tennessee and NC plants:

- Google News

Valiant try though.

In related news, a development in Benton Harbor that was seed-funded by Whirlpool is now underway. The investment called Harbor Shores covers over 500 acres, will create over 1500 jobs over 10 years, have a hotel, indoor waterpark and conference center, over 1000 housing units, and redevelop a large brownfield area along the river. Jack Nicklaus is being tapped to design a signature golf-course there as well. St Joe/Benton Harbor are essentially becoming a distant Chicago suburb:

Enough with the doom and gloom.. All 9 homes for sale on my street sold already, the local realtors say the market is actually HOT right now in terms of homes selling.

I am starting to see help wanted signs again, thankfully. Looks like the turn around has already started, sorry you missed the memo.

The market is not all that great in the Downriver area. We are "leasing with option to buy" our home in Southgate. It would have taken too long to sell and we would have to sell well below the market value in order to sell fast. The 3 realtors that we have talked with said that the market is slow and that we would probably have to pay the closing costs for the buyers as an incentive. We live in a low crime and nice neighborhood. It is nice to hear that there are areas that are looking up.

This is not a "Bash Michigan" thread... it's just the plain truth. I own a small business (12 years old) and am closing it at the end of this month. My internet sales have now become almost 2/3 of my business. Granted we are a very niche business but our company grew very well until the last year or so... My husband lost his job (management/quality in steel industry) over a year ago and has not been able to find another one. We tried selling our house which was move in ready, with a brand new steel roof (lifetime is 75 years, new vinyl, 2 car 2 story garage and has lake acess and low taxes etc..) it sat on the market for over 6 months, we finally gave up.

It is getting scary, we had everything planned out, our retirement fund looked good, our house would be paid off in the next 7-8 years just before retirement, we purchased a time share cheap so that we could at least enjoy one nice vacation a year and that would be paid off, everything looked good.... Now? Well we had to refi our home back to 30 years to reduce some debt, we sold our time share, we cashed in our 401k to have something to live on after unemployment checks expired.... Anyone who says things are looking up is either a professional that hasn't lost a job or they are lying.
