Not everyone is cut out for moving to another state and you may be one who needs your familiar neighborhood, family and so on too much to be happy anywhere else.

Everyone isn't the same -- and Arizona could be too hot for some just like Michigan is too cold for some. It's okay for people to move to where they like it better or to find a job but it's not okay to let yourself be "stuck" because in reality very few are that.
Excellent post. Thank you for saying this.

We moved from MI to IN temporarily and now we're in AZ. I'm very sad to leave my homestate. But for the sake of our family and our future we made this decision. And I don't regret it. I miss Michigan and it will always be my first 'home'. But I do feel content here. And in love with where I am. And that's something that surprised me as I had (before we moved) a "no place like home" complex.

I truly believe life is what you make of it. And if you want to be happy someplace else, you will. It doesn't mean it's wrong or you are 'bashing' Michigan (or any other homestate). It just means your adjusting and growing with our times the best you know how. Being 'stuck' is partly a state of mind I believe. And often you have the power to change that.

I also think you can appreciate a place even more by getting to know another place. Myself -- I love the desert and mountains but when I go back to visit to Michigan, I appreciate the woods, the small friendly towns, and everything they have there. I like where I am, I very much like the constant sun here but I still feel like I'm missing out sometimes with not having snow and blizzards, and cold drizzly days. I really like the way Michigan people talk but growing up, I never noticed anything special or unique in how they talk there.

It's like that song -- if you can't be with the one you love then love the one you're with. I think people who feel it's time to move on, then they should do it but with a sense of adventure because there's something in everywhere.

Also it depends on what situation one is in, some people are doing perfectly well in Michigan and don't want to leave so they won't, some want to try something else but don't really have to leave. Some probably should move on if they're not having much luck with jobs or careers where they are. It's just a matter of rediscovering that good old American pioneer spirit.

My husband and I have lived in Michigan all of our lives. He has been getting jobs offers and we are going to either Illinos or Pa. I love Michigan it is my home, but as a parent it is our responsibiity to do the best we can. The jobs are just not here anymore and we just can't make it here. It will be a very hard on us to leave here.

My husband has lived here his entire life(38 years) and I have lived here for a long time too...All of our family is here but there is NO work due to the automotive downfall. We are moving to South Carolina mid June(once kids are out of school) because my DH received a good job offer and we just cannot pass it up because prospects here are very dim. We are sad to leave but we have no choice. Just crossing our fingers that our house will sell in MI- that's a whole other issue besides lack of work. OY!

My future wife and I are going to Barrow, AK after she graduates. We want to have adventures. After that, it's off to sunny west Texas, thank you very much! Lol.
She's going into education, so we have to get out of Michigan... there are just no jobs here, and that's that.

I hated it here anyway. :-/
