Well, the Army just lowered it's max age back down to 35. You may have a good chance of joining, as long as you ship out to boot camp PRIOR to your 35th birthday (Effective April 1, 2011)

Check with a recruiter. When I was in the USMC there were older guys in boot camp who got in on a waiver. Not sure how keen they are on those these days, though.

No need to fool with the military. Go join up with the Military Sealift Command. (Military Sealift Command), it is civil service, pays very very very well, great adventure, work hard..I did it for five years, had to quit because always gone from wife, and kids, but it's a good job and career choice for you. It is a bit of paperwork to complete, takes about 6 months, but just do it.

Check with a recruiter. DS finished bootcamp in February of this year and said there were a few 36 year olds there.
