Just had a friend tell me about this:

Soulja Boy Insults U.S. Armed Forces | andPOP.com

Quote:
We're not quite sure what Soulja Boy was thinking when he said the line, "F*ck the FBI and f*ck all the army troops," in his latest rap video, but then again, we're never quite sure what Soulja Boy is thinking.
The controversy lyrics in the Soulja Boy song called "Lets Be Real" has quickly caused a stir amongst many U.S. troops, who aren't pleased with the rappers diss towards the army.
Soulja Boy Criticized For “F*ck Army Troops” Lyrics [Video] « Hip-Hop Wired

Opinions? If you don't know who he is, he is actually quite famous in the youth pop culture.

I know of him. Little pissed about this but there's nothing I can do. I never bought anything by him (nor any other rap music) and have no plans to chang my mind anytime soon. Don't like what he said? Don't buy his CDs or tickets to his shows.

It'll make you vomit with rage if you think about it too much.

My opinion is he has no talent and his music sucks but I guess it's cool to dis the troops when you're rich because you have a recording contract.

They were just talking about this on Howard Stern (I listen on my commute - yay Sirius!), which is why the thread caught my attention. And my take on this is that, yeah, it's a pretty insensitive thing to rap about... but what rap is EVER sensitive? I also believe in freedom of expression & speech, which does extend to music, so he has the right to say whatever he wants. Don't like it? Protest by not opening your wallets for his albums or concerts.

I agree, doesn't bother me. It's his opinion. It's similar to when the Dixie Chicks slammed Bush, before it was ok to do so as far as most Americans were concerned.

AAFES is refusing to carry the album that contains this song. I'm sure his stupidity cost him many fans...

Soulja boy tell 'em

I think his music is awful, however it's still catchy. It's music you love to hate.

I have to wonder if this drove him to apologize. Perhaps he realized what a foolish move it was and apologized on his own, which I sincerely hope.

He's now offering free concerts for the troops.

My son is active military so this really got me PO'd. The a$$ got a lot of flack from service people but from what I read a few days back in the news the following real soldier is the one that made the difference:

Sgt Dunson: Soldier Music | A Combat Veteran that does music based on his military experiences.

If the link doesn't work just google his name and you'll find places with the lines he used.
