TIME likes to wait a while before putting articles on line but there is a version of the recent article from the author here: An Army Apart: The Widening Military-Civilian Gap | Battleland | TIME.com

I don't think the issue is important. I expect that the the number of soldiers who disdain a disorganized public is about the same as the number of public who dislike soldiers. A military coup in America is simply goofy. Who would the coup be aimed at? The Democratic and Republican heads at the Pentagon would explode in confusion.

I'm glad I found it for you. You are welcome.

The OP mentioned reading the article currently in TIME but linked to a much older, but similar, article because they could not find a direct link to the one they were reading. TIME always delays the online version to current articles for non-subscribers so normally it would not be readable for a couple of months. I found the current article author and his self described "director's cut" version, so that people could discuss current differences between society and those that serve their country in the military.

Read the newer article and the author's agenda is apparent.

Take a complex subject, mix in some facts, and state your conclusion. Bingo you have an article. Guess I don't put too much stock in it.

By definition, not in reality.

I'm actually enlisted in the reserves, but I have been mobilized (CONUS) the whole time!

I live off base, and that's all I basically know of the civilian sector...and the time I spend in college b4 the military.
