To move out of my parents home, to get experience with the job I really want to spend the rest of my life doing, to get the proper qualifications and certifications recognized by the FAA and DOD, to earn some money, to serve my country.

I'll post it exactly as I wrote it on the 3X5 card our drill sergeant requested:

1. To get out of L.A.
2. To learn a trade
3. To serve my country

Most everyone else put serve country first; DI rewarded me with fire monitor position for my honesty.

As a 17 year old loser it was best move I ever made - became a successful phone tech, traveled Europe, made lifelong friends, learned self-discipline and submission to authority, etc.

To travel and see the world and serving my country at the same time. And boy did I travel in the US Navy.
