Ohh Rahh Doc, You may attend college openly and I would suggest you obtain a degree as they pay you monthly to attend school. Generally you are untouchable for 2 years for deployments Unless you Volunteer. There will be several opportunities to snag small dets to various location (New Zealand,Hawaii,Guam etc etc) we have had a few Reserve Docs tag along for training as well various packages. Are you Greenside Doc or Blueside?

Depends on your unit. I'm a Marine and was attached to 4th Medical BN (Marine unit full of Devil Docs). A lot of our Annual Training was in Africa up to 1 month.

Reserves are flexible and it is really up to your leaders on how flexible they'd be on letting you attend college. For instance, there was an Annual Training Coming up and I couldnt (or didnt want to have to) go because School was about to start. My Platoon Sgt was like no you have to go to this AT but then the Company Gunny was like; although the AT is important so is college, there will be another AT available in a couple months; just make sure you get on that roster to go. So they allowed me to attend college while in the reserves.

As far as advanced warning for deployment; again it depends on your unit. My unit has not been fully activated as a BN since 2003. All other deployments were volunteered deployments as augmentees. However, they could give you little notice or several months in advance; it just depends on what the Navy needs at that time.
