Technically, the Cold War era in the mid to late eighties. I was in Frankfurt when they bombed our PX complex. I was still there when Colin Powell was V Corps Commander ( I was an MP at the Abrams Complex, which was his HQ).

I got to stand at Checkpoint Charlie and stare at the East German Soldiers and that story is for another time...

Turns out that I'm probably one of the near last survivors of WW11 era being I was underage at the time of my enlistment in the Canadian Reserve Army still during wartime in 1945. Will not go into details other then that I'm 80 yrs old today and pushing hard towards 81.

Did a US Army tour in Japan 1951 and a North Korea (combat) (todays DMZ Zone).

Guess I'm just a uniform wearing type of guy...nothing special...maybe a hard learner.

AMEN, DewDropInn! Steve, you really should record your experiences so the generations after yours will know and understand what life was like for you.

BOT; I served in the USAF from 1974 to 1997. I crewed some of the most awesome aircraft ever built! For many of us, there's nothing more exciting than the scream of jet engines and the aroma of jet fuel...

Been there, done all that as a Crew Chief and an Air Reserve Technician (ART) on C-141 and C-5 aircrafts from 1967 to 1997 from stateside mostly in Northern California and overseas in the Philippines and Thailand and TDY to other countries in South East Asia.
I'm retired now in the Philippines and I love it, because it's home!
