In ordering service records would spouses name be listed anywhere in records? Next of kin perhaps? This was back in 43-46. DD214 says status was married. I'm his kid and it wasn't my mamma!! Nobody knew.

Depends what records you get. You can try ordering his whole file with an SF 180 (just google it). I'm not sure what next of kin are entitled to. When I order service records (I'm a recruiter), I get the original security clearance paperwork, which does list spouse info. I don't know what all next of kin can obtain, but you can send in the request.

Thank you. I've got the SF180 printed off and am sending it in soon. I planned on making a note about spouse. Was curious if anyone here knew answer. Thanks again.

I wish you luck. All my records burned in the St Louis fire. I made the request, trying to get a copy of my DD214 and they sent me a sheet titled Certificate of Military Service with the essential dates and stating Honorable Release from servie.

Thanks. I've read on some forums about the fire, I don't know if my Dad's records would have been in it or not. I 'll do more research.

Cat
This is what the letter said. " If the records were here on 7/12/73 it would have been in the area that suffered the most fire damage. The fire destroyed the major portion of Army records for the period 1912 thru 1959 and Air Force records with surnames Hubbard thru Z for the period 1947 thru 1963.
Some records were lent to the Dept. of Vet Affairs under claim No. 27 483 050 and may have been saved. Call 1 800 827 1000"

I would contact them anyway. Good luck.

I did some research last night about the fire. Navy records are what I'm interested in. From what I read, those records weren't there. Unless I misunderstood, (it was a late night).
I also read that it could take up to months to receive said records. In further reading I found that there is at least one "government approved" company that can get you the records in as little as 5 days for approx the same cost or a little more. Not sure how reliable the info is but I may check it out. Or I can take the long route. I'm in no hurry.
Thank you for the number. I'll keep it on hand.
