My dad was at Bergstrom near Austin in the early 50s. Also I understand there was some sort of small base or airfield during the war near Barbarossa ,Texas. The little town is near New Braunfels .The place is long gone with no evidence it even existed.

From: BARBAROSA, TX | The Handbook of Texas Online| Texas State Historical Association (TSHA)

"During World War II an auxiliary airfield established in the vicinity was called Barbarosa Air Field."

Doesn't say anything else about it.

saw this sad place when on holiday in Crete a few years ago... it was left by the Americans to the Greek people who left it to decay and at one time had a gypsy group living there..

Lived near Glenview NAS for a while. Frequent air traffic and military concerts occasionally. A friend of mine worked at the PX. Now mostly high income housing and shopping.

I know it's not really what this thread is about, but one of my favorite places around here is Fort Armistead.

Fort Armistead - FortWiki Historic U.S. and Canadian Forts

It also has a great view of Fort Carroll in the middle of the harbor.
