Another Air Force brat ... we were stationed at Norton (CA), Alconbury (England - closed), Bergstrom (Austin TX - closed), Edwards (CA), Pease (NH - closed), and probably a couple more I'm forgetting.

I know it makes sense for so many bases to have closed, but I have to say, on an emotional level it was very hard to hear of some of those closings. It felt like a piece of my childhood was being ripped away.

The Donaldson Air Force Base (Greenville Army Air Base, Greenville, SC) officially closed in 1963 and converted to a civilian airport. It is now the South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center. Lockheed has a facility there (along with many other businesses).
