Yeah, it's easy to pin it on the person and say they have no discipline, but unfortunately, it's hardwired into a person's brain if they're a shopaholic or super spender. They simply will never see the value of saving money for the future. They're kind of like alcoholics, you can only suppress their carvings, but the chance for relapse is high. On the other extreme of the spectrum, you get the cheapskates, people who have no problem not leaving tips at restaurants.
However, with a car it could be a different experience. I've seen first hand multiple times somewhat responsible people drive to the dealership to buy a Focus at $300/mo and somehow leave with a Mustang for $700/mo. lol
