I have heard stories about life in boys' schools and places like that, where they were basically only allowed to visit the bathroom during specific break times.

I am not really asking if that is that case in the military. But does this occur naturally, since everyone supposedly gets used to eating, drinking, and exercising all the same way?

I have never had a time where I could not go to the bathroom when I needed to. The only think that ever kept me waiting was for a relief if I needed one when on watch.

While thinking through this answer, I was remembering all the periods of standing watch (sometimes in some remote places) where it would be difficult to get someone to temporarily take over the watch. The longest watch (navy term for my assigned post) was 5 hours. Now, I have been locked away behind water tight doors at my general quarters (battle stations) for longer than that. I have been in some electronic maintenance situations where we stayed up and at it for three days but we were able to bet a small break for a sandwich and a trip to the head. There have been times when the situation at hand was so compelling that you cannot take yourself away from it. Certainly, one should be able to plan ahead and control the situation when going to a long concert, for example.
Actually, the reverse situation is more common in the Navy. You need to go, you have the time to go, nothing is keeping you from going, so you go looking for the head. Today is field day where everyone is cleaning everything for the Captain's Inspection. Every head you find is secured for cleaning. There is no place to go and your ship is at the end of a quarter mile pier. No that is a problem.

There are very few instances where you won't be able to go. If you are on guard watch or something like that, the experienced folks take a bottle with them. Otherwise, you can pretty much #1 anywhere. #2 is a whole different story...
