To the poster who wondered why not many army replies.
I loved my 30+ years in the Army. I had no bad assignments in the end. Loved my soldiers. and felt accomplishments every day. Not to say there weren't bad people, places and things, etc but just speaking on the whole. Army does good work.
I would do it again and only retired because it was time to build a new life.
But the Army is shrinking. The multiple deployments by Army units/reservists 'may' be ending but they have been hard. and sometimes you just see too much. If you got into a field that was especially exciting to you, then maybe that is worthwhile, but given this administration's policy decisions and programming dollars for the next seven years; Army is not getting the share of future procurement and R&D funding that Navy and AF are. Wouldn't recommend Army as a career anymore. But for a single enlistment, maybe.
I am grateful my son did his Army reserve time and served his country. I am especially grateful that my son in law returned safely from his latest deployment. I would advise my grandchildren to go AF if they were so inclined to follow in our footsteps. Navy would be fine and high tech, it just isn't something I would choose.
