This is true and the part they always ignore. They keep wanting to civilianize the military and compare it to the civilian job market but they want to keep all the worst aspects of it being THE MILITARY
They want it cheap. Have their cake and eat it too. And compensation in the military has always been based on getting 'em for cheap anyway. The cryptic pay system of laughably low base pay coupled with various non-taxable allowances, other payments being taxable and some non-taxable, chow halls and barracks space being considered "compensation" and subtracted from your paycheck
