The "boys will be boys" attitude seems to be coming mostly from a particular breed of vets who tend to populate and dominate the comment sections of Military Times and similar. People currently serving seems less inclined, at least in face-to-face convos.

Two Marines have been disciplined for posting derogatory comments on social media, marking the first time the Marine Corps has officially punished members for online misconduct following last month’s revelations that hundreds of service members shared illicit photos of their female counterparts on a Facebook group, Marine officials said Friday.
The interesting article continues...

My thoughts exactly. Those pictures likely were not taken against their will. It's like what did you think was going to happen?

I hate how the media paints these women as 'victims' when really they are victims of their own stupidity. Not condoning the whole thing, but really, come on.

It's really sick, and it amazes me how there are people that just wave it off as "boys will be boys" as well as saying things like "this is why women shouldn't be allowed in the military" as if it's their fault the guys can't control themselves.

From those here who have been in the military what is your take?
things is, can these Marines watch porn during off hours? What is the difference between watching the porn and seeing these nude photos other than they are photos of your colleagues? Can the Marines go to a nude strip club?

Yeah...guys are smart - just dik pics that are harder (haha) to pin on an individual.

Ladies - if you MUST distribute pictures - body parts only...no face or wear a cute masquerade mask...something to disguise yourself. I know, I know, then you feel like just a piece of meat and the guy won't be able to remember you...but maybe that's better in the long run!

It looks more like "girls will be girls" to me. You have a bunch of young and healthy adults. There is going to be sex. Get over it.

Some of them are really cute, as good as any naked girl I have ever had sex with. They know they look good, and are sharing that. No harm, no foul.

From what I hear, it wasn't the guys who couldn't control themselves; it was the women. They distributed pictures of themselves. By the way, the article you linked to doesn't say anything about the actual facts (or alleged facts). It doesn't actually allege anything wrong, let alone prove it. It's just a stupid demand for special privileges for women.

And, yes, my thought is, why are women in the Marine Corps?

Well if they feel like a piece of meat maybe they should realize that in the long run, distributing pictures of themselves might not be such a good idea.

Also, concerning thoughts on the whole Marine scandal, not good at all as it brought to mind the Tailhook scandal of September 1991.

The Tailhook scandal was a series of incidents where more than 100 U.S. Navy and United States Marine Corps aviation officers were alleged to have sexually assaulted 83 women and 7 men, or otherwise engaged in "improper and indecent" conduct at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada. The term can also refer to the resulting investigations conducted by the Department of the Navy and the Inspector General of the Department of Defense. Obviously, this "will not be their first rodeo."

Women talk nude photos of themselves and share them now days it happens.

When our youngest son was in high school I happened to look at his email. He had nude photos from nearly every girl in his high school. I recognized the faces of those girls. Right before he turned 18, I did the whole lecture about child porn. It makes no difference who took the photo. The are underage girls and as an 18 year old, if he possessed the photos it is child porn.

Girls take nude photos of themselves and email them around. Guys who possess the photos get busted.
