Hi, I'm in the military and choosing orders to Yokosuka, Japan, I've never been there but i only hear good thing about it. I have a question that would be the deciding factor for choosing those orders, we own a house in jacksonville, FL my wife will be staying back for about 4 months before she joins me in Japan, how does it work with the BAH or OAH, would I still be getting either allowance even though my wife is not with me for that period of time, we still have to pay for our house here for those 4 months; what rate would I get, does anyone know?Read more: http://www.city-data.com/forum/milit...#ixzz0R80wBQLp

International universities/college options?
Just wondering if anyone would happen to have any information about what your options are as a spouse if you are currently enrolled in college and will still have schooling to do to finish the degree up while living in Yokosuka. I've looked at some of the international schools, but it seems that all of the classes are in Japanese and I'm only at the beginner level of speaking Japanese right now, so I know there is no way I'd be able to pass classes that way!
My husband was told that I could take classes on base through the education center there, but only if there was space available in the classes. I really don't want to postpone my degree for 3 years and I definitely do not want to be without my husband for 3 years.
Anyone have knowledge on this kind of situation? Thanks in advance.

Brit, we bought our car from the used car lot on base. They have a large selection of barely used, great cars that are priced really low. You can buy a car there and sell it before you move. It's an easy process (at least it was for us). There are a lot of people coming and going to Yokosuka.

Nef30, I stayed behind for 3 months when my husband first moved to Japan. He received Japan's bah rate. Woo hoo! He was underway those 3 months and then we moved into base housing when my daughter and I arrived.

Oh, and Brit, you will be able to watch the big games while there. They sometimes show at odd times though!
HM000, my husband was away most of the time we were in Japan. Being located at the "tip of the sword" and all that... It's hard to say how long you will be underway. Problems always arise in that part of the world.
Talymo, I have friends who took courses through the University of Phoenix online. Many colleges offer online courses. That is the route I would go if the classes on base are full.
Best of luck to everyone on their move to Japan!
