I decided to enlist in the Army, and it sounded too good to be true. It took 3 days to put my packet together, and the week after went to MEPS. Everything was going good until the examiner said he couldn't see the fundus in my right or left eye. The liaison told me I had to come back in a few weeks for a consult. Basically to see the ophthalmologist. I returned home, my lazy ass recruiter, excuse my language never told me about my appointment, so I missed it. Eventhough I've been calling him every week. Then, he had the nerve to tell me I have to meet with the commander to explain why I missed my appointment. That was the last straw, that day I went to another branch. Now I'm here typing a memo to the commander, and taking full responsibility for a missed appointed I knew nothing about. and it's been 4 months going on 5 and I haven't been back to MEPS. It pretty much sucks, but what can I do? I would really appreciate feedback, negative opinions are not needed. Thanks

I'm not following. Are you still trying to join the Army or another branch? Write the memo. In the big scheme of life, it'll have been worth the 10 minutes to have a great career.

I'm joining another branch. Writing the memo was upsetting, but sometimes you have to do things you don't want to. In the end I had to type up a total of 3. Two for the commander and one for MEPS. He simply wanted me to take responsibility, from his perspective I kind of understand. Now I'm just patiently waiting to go back to MEPS.

Dumb recruiter sounds like he screwed you over. I would have tossed the recruiter under the bus. Perhaps the commander needed one last straw to put this recruiter out of his job for incompetence. Anyway, good luck with everything. I hope you get the branch and MOS that you want. Sometimes fate works out for you in the long run and you get a good assignment or MOS after all of this.......

For a moment I thought the problem was me. Then I realized the Army is not the only branch, and going to another recruiter was the smart choice. "Sometimes good things fall apart, so better things can come together". Faith works in mysterious ways even if we don't realize it. I appreciate your kind words.
