CG is not so tough and HVAC is not so special. He might get some additional training, build his work experience. You are both young so embrace the adventure and don't panic.
Quick overview: I'm 23 my husband is 23. He recently got his universal HVAC certification. We have 3 children (3 going on 4, 2 going on 3, and 1 month baby). Recently my husband has decided to try for Coast Guard and work in his field mainly to secure our childrens and our future. I'm completely against I have so much negative view about the military it has been a battle b/t us. I feel like I didn't get married not to have a husband physical there and I'm willing to take time to build and grow. I'm almost done with my nursing for LPN, so I have plenty faith we will be financially stable in time. I'm scared out of my mind something will happen and he won't get station near home he is considering active. The research I've done and reviews I have seen about the toll it takes on couples and families did not help. If anyone has any insight good and bad please give me info.
May I ask how did you come about this very negative view of the military?
I enjoyed all the places we lived when i was growing up as an Army brat...
We lived in Fort Riley, KS/ Fort Leonard Wood, MO/ Fort Jackson, SC/ Fort Huachuca, AZ/ Fort Ord, CA. We lived outside of Mannheim, Germany in Ben Franklin Village for my first three years of high school. We traveled all over Germany to play other high schools for sports. We had a wonderful time. I made many great friends & saw much beauty where we lived...
My son was in the Child Development Center in Heidelberg Germany as a 4 or 5 year old. We rotated back to the states and retired.
To our surprise he was always running into kids he knew from the CDC as son was on a traveling sports team. He would be guarding against his preschool best friends and it was old home week
That stopped by high school but it is a small world.

That just comes with the territory. I have seen the majority of military families handle this with no problem. My wife and I handled 8 deployments between the both of us in a 24 year time span, and our family turned out just fine. Just depends on how well you handle it mentally.
Baby sitting other kids... One youngster we babysat later became a star on a TV Soap Opera. Another followed his father's footsteps and joined the Army, became a First Sergeant and then retired at 20+ years.. No I feel "older than dirt"
The negotiations of how do you arrange the babysitting? "We have two kids and you have five kids, it's not an even-steven trade..."
Yes, there were some hardships, but a lot of good memories.
