As I recall from frequent TDYs, the air in Seoul was yellow from pollution blowing in. And the density of people was most uncomfortable for me, to say nothing of I would never ever drive there.

it was interesting from an historical point of view. e.g. Monument to the most southern point that Monguls reached. The mountains are truly breathtaking. Viewing the DMZ will make your knees shake. And ROK soldiers are amazingly tough. You like to shop or want special order/made items, Seoul is good for that.

That being said, at this time I would keep family members back at home base if possible. As someone said east of Kansas City.

Yes. The space between the two countries are heavily mined from both sides. While land mines will not be a deterrent for a determined enemy it is still a dangerous place to patrol. The equipment both sides have make the crossing a moot point.
