From ages 14-17 I had 8 misdemeanors 2 petty theft 1 public intoxication 1 possession of marijuana Multiple probation violations
I eventually went to boarding school and completed the terms of my probation.
This was all over a decade ago Haven’t had police contact since. I’m now 28 and a social worker working with the police department, board president of a local nonprofit, straight A college student, the list goes on. I’ve been told by a recruiter that my history displays a pattern of criminality and that I am non-waiverable.
Should I keep trying with a different recruiter? Or is my record too bad for a waiver?
I'm a recruiting supervisor. I've done lots of waivers that other recruiters said were impossible. Not knowing your exact offenses I can't tell you a good answer. The last 10 years make a waiver likely possible in my opinion, with the right recruiter. But, it depends.
Where the misdemeanors related? For example, I had a waiver once for a teenager that Tee-peed two neighboring houses. He was charged with a curfew violation, criminal mischief, vandalism x 2 (one for each house), trespassing x 2, and littering. 7 Offenses for a childhood prank. This could get a waiver.
If you shoplifted 8 times over 8 years, probably no waiver because of how hard headed you were in learning your lesson and the chances of you actually having shoplifted 28 times but just getting caught 8.
