Look I'm an old maid with cats, and grew up in an Airforce family, eldest of three kids. Where ever daddy went, momma went. My dad was at NSA in the late 1906s, early 70s. He decided he wanted to retire and get out of the spy game as he called it. He I guess asked to go back to rthe San Antonio area because retired in 1975 from RandolphAFB. My parents always liked San Antonio having been here in the 1950s, early 60s. They liked the people , the area etc. BUT it was a mutual decision. Before your husband decided to retire, he should have spoken to you and discussed your options as a couple in regards to jobs, lifestyle, etc. Not just decide for the two of you. What did he do, stick you in the middle of Montana or Idaho?
A lot of military retire here. There are plenty of jobs for nurses and you husband could work for H.E.B., NSA, on one of the bases or for some civilian company. Even if you moved to the town where i live east of San Antonio, , we have a YMCA, library, various organizations, etc. A couple of the towns near me also have like Planet Fitness, Gold's Gym,etc. Plenty of places to eat and things to do. You can fish at Calaveras lake, Canyon Lake, the Guadalupe River, Blanco State park etc. You can go east on USHWY 87 to Port Lavaca, or about 200 miles down to Corpus christi, Port Aransas, Rockport etc. for deep sea fishing. There's Enchanted Rock for hiking, etc.
Does your town have a library? Maybe there are groups who have meetings you could check out. Who knows you might even meet a few people who could become your friend. Maybe your husband is as frustrated by his choice as you are, but afraid to admit it.Might hurt his pride to admit he was wrong. Maybe if you can get him to do it, couples counseling through a church if you belong to one or through a specialist in the subject might be a good idea.
