One of the reasons I joined the US Navy was my best friend had an older brother in the US Navy and he had the "coolest" black, silk, cruise jacket with names and flags of countries his ship had visited. Places I could only dream of. I so wanted to visit those places.
Well I spent 6 years in the US Navy Submarine Service (diesel and nuclear fast attack boats) and never had one of those jackets as most places we went and what we did could not talked about.
Ugg, those jackets are kinda ugly. I see them all over the place at the beach this time of year. Lot's of military guys have them. Maybe i'm thinking of a different one but I see a ton of Navy guys wearing those.
I believe we used to wear a similar jacket when I was serving in Korea in the late 70's. Based on a MA-1 Nylon Flight Jacket. Each unit would have there unit patch engraved on the front and some troops would have a map of South Korea on the back encircled by a stylized dragon or tiger on the back. I passed mine onto my son years ago. Lord only knows where it is now.
