So if someone is on their first enlistment and they have the Afghanistan Campaign medal, they're not allowed to join? Someone there needs to reread their regs. If you have one of the required campaign medals, you can join. DD-214 not required. I joined the VFW on the strength of my Afghanistan Campaign award. The DD-214 listing it came almost a year later.
So I assume you presented the award letter that states you have your Campaign medal?
Our members are mostly vets, we have very few servicemembers.
This exactly. I was a VFW life member for 15 years before I got off active duty and had a DD-214. I showed my campaign award and was granted membership. They have never seen a DD-214.
You should have gotten a DD-214 for every EAOS, every time that you re-enlisted.
An offical DOD document that states you earned a Campaign Medal.
For most vets the only such document that they have would be their DD-214.
If you were still on Active Duty and had just been awarded your medal, it might be likely that before you get your next DD-214 the only document you had access to was the award letter itself.
I don't think there was such a thing as a DD-214 for a marine in 1942.
There wasn't...

What is a DD214?
The Defense Department issues to each veteran a DD-214, identifying the veteran's condition of discharge - honorable, general, other than honorable, dishonorable or bad conduct. Before January 1, 1950, several similar forms were used by the military services, including the WD AGO 53, WD AGO 55, WD AGO 53-55, NAVPERS 553, NAVMC 78PD, and the NAVCG 553.
Listen to me and listen to me clearly some people do serve and have no record of doing so all because your search results came up with nothing dosent mean you can destroy and an individuals faith in service. Its called classified and not only that if he or she wanted to let you know some intell but not all they could especially if they were investigating your family what makes you think that, that information is any if your concern. And once again there's a difference between stolen valor and giving individuals some information about morals and what my brothers and sisters do under daily basis.

Wht they did may have been classified but the fact that they served is also? If they’re alive and amenable, what’s the harm in asking them for their DD214?
I like how the state of AZ handles requests for vet tags. Proof isn’t required when you request the plate but they have a right to request a copy as necessary. I’ll send mine to them, sso redacted, upon request.
Sorry, but I do not believe you are talking about...
That’s another way to say what I wanted to say.
